What's the Angle Seat Valve

An angle seat valve is a 2/2-way, pneumatically operated valve that uses a piston actuator to provide linear motion. This motion lifts a sealed piston off its seat, allowing fluid to flow. The valve seat is positioned at an angle within a die-cast valve body to maximize flow rate when the valve is open. The upper part of the valve consists of the pneumatic actuator.

Actuator Structure and Working Principle

The actuator of an angle seat valve is structurally similar to a typical pneumatic air cylinder. It features both inlet and outlet ports, and a sealed piston is assembled at the rod end. When compressed air enters the actuator, it drives the piston upward or downward, transmitting motion through the stem (which functions as the piston rod) to open or close the valve’s sealing disc.

  1. In single-acting actuators, the return movement of the sealing disc is typically achieved by a built-in spring, which brings the piston back to its default position once air pressure is released.
  2. In a double-acting configuration, there is no return spring. Both opening and closing actions are driven entirely by compressed air, offering greater precision and control.

The Consideration When Choose The Angle Seat Valve.

Working Pressure

Angle seat valves typically support a working pressure range of 5 to 20 bar. When selecting a valve, it is essential to consider not only the media pressure (fluid or gas being controlled) but also the compressed air pressure in the pneumatic actuator circuit. Both affect the valve’s overall performance and actuation reliability.


Temperature and Sealing Materials

Angle seat valves are capable of withstanding operating temperatures up to 200 °C, particularly when equipped with PTFE (Teflon) seals. Other common sealing materials and their characteristics include:

  • NBR (Nitrile Buna Rubber): Good for general-purpose use, but limited to lower temperature ranges (typically up to ~80 °C).

  • FKM (Viton): Offers better chemical resistance and moderate high-temperature performance (up to ~150 °C).

  • EPDM: Suitable for water and steam applications, with temperature tolerance up to ~130 °C, but limited chemical resistance.

The temperature and pressure ratings of the valve are also significantly influenced by the housing material used.


Housing Materials

Common valve body materials include:

  • Stainless Steel (304/316): Offers superior corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and is ideal for high-pressure or high-temperature applications.

  • Bronze / Gunmetal: Good durability and corrosion resistance in water systems.

  • Brass: Suitable for lower-pressure applications, cost-effective.

  • Plastic: Lightweight and resistant to certain chemicals, but with limited temperature and pressure capability.
